Area of Coverage
International Health insurance plans usually divides the area of coverage into two Area of Coverage, they are:
• Worldwide
• Worldwide excluding North America (or excluding United States )
The premium for Worldwide Cover will be higher than Worldwide excluding North America. The reason for this is due to the cost of medical treatment in North America is more expensive than the rest of the world. Some insurers still cover their member in the excluded areas in emergency situation when the member travels to the excluded areas for a short period.
Some insurers set up further alternatives areas, excluding treatment in places like Hong Kong, China, Japan, Singapore and Bali. These are also expensive places to undergo treatment. You can reduce your premium by only taking cover in the parts of the world that are important to you.
In many cases, the treatment cost in developing countries is similar to the treatment cost in Europe. The premium will be similar for the member who chooses to have the Area of Cover in Europe and Asia.
